1994 report by the American Council of Education ranked the University of Florida among the nation's top five academic and athletic institutions. Stanford, Texas, Michigan and UCLA joined Florida in this elite ranking.

n independent research study published in the NCAA News in 1992 named Florida one of the nation's six premier schools for having the best mix of academic quality and athletic success. Penn State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas and UCLA joined UF in this elite group which was determined by comparing rankings of the nation's top academic institutions and athletic success over the previous 10 year period (1982-91).

Academics Athletics
Florida ranked tenth among all universities in rankings of "best value", according to Money Magazine, 1998.

Ranks fourth among public institutions, and seventh among all institutions, in the number of National Merit Scholars in 1999 freshman class.

Ranks second nationally among public institutions, and fifth among all institutions, in the number of National Achievement Scholars in the 1999 freshman class.

Ranks among the top three schools in the nation for the number of academic programs offered on a single campus.

A 1996 national report by the Council to Aid Education ranks Florida fifth among all public institutions for alumni support.

Florida ranks eighth nationally among all U.S. universities in patents issued in 1997, and eighth in revenue from royalties in 1998.

One of only 63 of the more than 1,300 colleges and universities in the nation belonging to the Association of American Universities - the most prestigious organization for higher education in North America.

Home to national research centers in science, medicine and engineering.
Florida finished third in the 2001-2002 Sears Directors' Cup national All-Sports Championships rankings. That academic year marked the 19th straight year that UF finished in the top 10 in national all-sports standings and the 13th straight year in the top five.


For an unprecedented fourth time, Florida completed a sweep of the Southeastern Conference All-Sports Trophies, winning the men's, women's and combined crowns in 1998. Florida became the first school in SEC history to win all three in 1992 and has since repeated the feat in 1993, 1996 and 1998.


A league record 100 student-athletes were named to the SEC's Academic Honor Roll in 1997-98.


Florida is one of only two schools in the nation in the 1990s to have its football team win the national title, have its men's basketball team advance to the Final Four and have its baseball team appear in the College World Series.


Florida's women's athletic program, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1996, was named the nation's premier women's program in an April 1997 ranking by Sports Illustrated.
